Directory of RV Services at Truck Stops Now Available at RVbookstore.com

Edmonds, WA (PRWeb) January 15, 2007 -- The 2007 RVers Friend directory is now available at RVbookstore.com (http://www.rvbookstore.com). The annual guidebook lists every travel center and truck stop in the U.S. and Canada -- about 6,800 all together -- and the services each provides to RV travelers.

With this handy guide, RVers in motorhomes or travel trailers can determine if a travel center welcomes them for a free overnight stay, if it has a waste dump station, if it sells propane, and if it provides Internet access or utility hookups. And, also very important, the guidebook lists which RV mechanical services are provided.

"Many RVs today are powered by diesel engines or are being towed by one, and it's sometimes hard to find fuel," said Chuck Woodbury, editor of the popular website RVtravel.com (http://www.rvtravel.com). "The RVers Friend is an important reference because it shows exactly where RVers can find diesel fuel. That can save them from driving out their way only to find that diesel is not available."

Woodbury said that many RVers occasionally spend a night in a truck stop. "Some of them even set aside a special parking area for RVs," he said. "Staying overnight at a truck stop is not an experience with nature, but it's often convenient and there is virtually never a fee."

Years ago, highway travel centers were called truck stops. But after a few economic downturns, truck stop owners saw their revenues plummet and sought new customers to boost their sagging sales. It was obvious who those customers might be: One look out their front windows revealed a steady stream of motorhomes and travel trailers parading by.

So they began adding services for these travelers and they changed their names from truck stops to travel centers or travel plazas. One of the first things many did was welcome RVers to stay the night. Some provided utility hookups and RV-specific mechanical services. RVers began stopping for fuel or to spend the night, shopping at the travel store or dining in the restaurant. "It's been a good thing for the truck stops and a good thing for RVers," said Woodbury.

The RVers Friend retails for $14.95 and was published in January. RVbookstore.com is the world's largest retailer of books, eBooks, DVDs and magazines for recreational vehicle enthusiasts and is located in Edmonds, Washington.
